Emergency Preparedness

Being prepared means knowing what to do in a number of unexpected possible events and having the essentials for life sustenance, which are in order of importance...

  1. Medical; Don't risk life. If injured do as much as is needed or as possible to stop bleeding, quench a burn or attend to any life threatening situation.
  2. Warmth; Keep dry or get dry. Much energy is lost through evaporation on the skin. Heat loss occurs in 5 ways; Conduction (like wet clothes), Convection (immersed in a liquid or in contact with a heat drawing medium such as metal), Perspiration (don't over exert yourself), Radiation (infrared light) and Respiration (vapor in the breath). We suggest you have at least 3 ways of starting a fire.
  3. Shelter; The purpose being protection from external effects on health such as in retaining warmth.
  4. Water; Dehydration is the number 1 trigger of daytime fatigue. A 2% drop in body water can cause fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on a printed page (or map). You can die from dehydration within hours if you are, like 75% of Americans, already dehydrated. Avoid sodas, any drinks containing Caffeine, and any alcohol as these will dehydrate you faster.
  5. Food; With all of the above you can survive for days but to remain healthy, and that is the goal, you need nourishing food intake. You need foods high in protein, and some carbohydrates (starch and sugar) and lipids (fats like oils). When selecting foods for your emergency food storage supply be sure they provide a balance in nutrition as you would use them. Check the RDA percentages and make sure you cover your bases.

Remember most survival events are resolved within 72 hours. Therefore the rational for a 72 hour emergency survival kit. A good emergency kit will cover all of the five points of survival above.

We provide everything necessary and even some emergency luxuries for those times of need.
